Transportation Services for People With Disabilities

RIDES photoIn cooperation with the American with Disabilities Act (ADA) of 1990, Monterey-Salinas Transit offers the MST RIDES ADA program to our customers who have a disability that prevents them from using MST's regular fixed route bus service.

Each of MST’s regular fixed route buses is fully accessible and each is equipped with a wheel-chair lift. If you are able to use MST’s regular bus service, we encourage you to do so. If you believe that you are unable to use MST’s regular buses due to your disability, you may be eligible for the MST RIDES ADA program. MST RIDES ADA Service Description

The MST RIDES ADA program offers curbside-to-curbside transportation service to eligible passengers as a ride-share program.

Reservation requests may be made up until 5:00PM the day before or up to 14 days in advance of the day of service. There are no restrictions on the purpose of the trip.

Based on vehicle availability, MST RIDES ADA may need to schedule passenger trips within one hour of the requested pick-up time.

Service Hours

MST RIDES ADA services are available whenever MST’s regular fixed-route bus services are in operation.

MST’s regular fixed route schedule is subject to change.

Service Area:

MST RIDES ADA service is provided within a service corridor that extends ¾ of a mile from any of MST’s regular bus routes. Both the point of departure and the destination of each trip must be within the service corridor.

MST RIDES ADA provides service throughout the Monterey Peninsula to Carmel, Carmel Valley, Salinas, Chualar, Gonzales, Greenfield, Soledad, King City, and to the Watsonville Transit Center.

Fare Zones:

The MST RIDES ADA fare zones are as follows:

Peninsula:
Monterey Peninsula, Carmel Valley, Marina and Castroville
Salinas:

Marina, Castroville, Prunedale, Salinas, and Chualar

South County :
Chualar, Gonzales, Soledad, Greenfield, and Soledad
North County :  
Watsonville, Moss Landing, Castroville, Marina, and Prunedale


Fares:

Zones: $2.50 per zone  
One-way, one-zone trip $2.50
One-way, two-zone trip $5.00
One-way, three-zone trip $7.50
One-way, four-zone trip $10.00
   
Exact fare is required when boarding.

Other Information:

  • If you need assistance, one registered Personal Care Attendant may ride with you for free. Other companions must pay full fare and may ride, as space is available.
  • For reasons of personal safety and liability, our drivers may not negotiate stairs or enter private homes or care facilities.

 

MST Special Transportation (ST) Services

Curbside-to-curbside service is also available to registered RIDES ADA passengers residing in limited areas of unincorporated North and South Monterey County, which are outside of MST’s regular service area. (For program and fare information call 1-888-MST-BUS1 (1-888-6782871).

MST Reimbursed Taxi Program

As an alternative to the MST RIDES ADA service, registered RIDES ADA passengers may call any taxi company for their transportation needs. The MST RIDES ADA program will reimburse passengers for up to 50% of their taxi fares. Monthly reimbursement payments may not exceed $45 per passenger. The reimbursement could be less depending on the available budget for this service, and on the number of persons who use the program.

MST Special Medical Trips

MST provides limited service twice per month to the San Francisco Bay Area for medical related trips only to:

  • University of California at San Francisco Medical Center, San Francisco, CA
  • Mount Zion Hospital, San Francisco, CA
  • Veteran's Administration Hospital, Palo Alto, CA
  • Stanford Medical Center, Palo Alto, CA
  • Santa Clara Medical Center, Santa Clara, CA


This service is available only to registered MST RIDES ADA passengers. Reservations are accepted on a first-come first-service basis and the round trip fare is $15.00.
